Dare to Dream

Success starts with imagination.

Every great idea began in the mind of some forward-thinking person. We’re able to harness and use electricity thanks to the ideas of Ben Franklin. Alexander Graham Bell allowed us to speak with other people over vast distances using his invention, the telephone. Henry Ford’s Model T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry. We can travel across the country (or world) in hours, because of the efforts of Orville and Wilbur Wright. And, I’m certain you’re familiar with the names Steve Jobs and Bill Gates . . . Each of these inventors (and others) helped bring to life the marvels that are commonplace today. Every piece of technology we own was the brain-child of an individual or individuals who could think outside of the box and create something new based on their imaginations. They each had a dream (or shared a dream). They each had belief that their dreams were possible.  They each worked to turn those dreams into realities.

How does this relate to singing, you ask? Great question! Let’s keep looking . . .

In August of 1958, there was a boy born into a large, musical family in Gary, Indiana. Through his dreams and determination, he later become a world-wide icon. Commonly dubbed the “King of Pop”, this man’s name was Michael Joseph Jackson. In the early 1980s, he changed the face of music with his Thriller album and music video.

Mariah Carey is famed for her five-octave vocal range and power. Traversing R&B, Pop, and Hip Hop, she is christened by the Guinness World Records as the “Songbird Supreme” and was the best-selling female-artist of the millennium in 2000. Currently, she is ranked as the third best-selling female artist in the United States behind Barbra Streisand and Madonna.

Oh, and let us not forget about those Liverpool kids: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr who became the best-selling band in history – The Beatles!

Ok. Enough about these famous people. Let’s talk about you.

What are your dreams? Do you imagine yourself a stage performer, delivering your songs to an adoring audience?  Maybe you fancy yourself a recording artist, creating album after album in the studio? You might even be someone who simply wants to feel comfortable and confident in using your voice singing around the house or the occasional “Happy Birthday” at parties.

There are no dreams too big or too small. Your dreams are yours – don’t let anyone take that away from you!

Next, you need belief. You need to believe that whatever you can envision, you can have. The stronger your belief, the closer your dreams become.

Finally, you need a strong work-ethic. No matter how hard you believe, if you don’t have the drive to make something happen, chances are it won’t. Rome wasn’t built in a day and,  for most of us, our dreams won’t be, either. But I promise that if you’re willing to put in the effort and stay the course, your success is an inevitability.
