How I Got Into Music

I've been singing since I was about 4 or 5.  As with most kids, I did it simply for the enjoyment of it, not because I harbored dreams of someday being on stage.  As I grew older, I'd hear other people singing and I'd subconsciously start to hum along with them. Even if I'd never heard the song before, I'd kind of "intuit" where the melody was going and I'd be right there with them.  I recall being in a music class in elementary school - our teacher was introducing us to The Beatles (I just dated myself!) and as he began playing the piano and singing, I started humming.  He turned to me and was surprised I knew the song and I told him I'd never heard it before. I just "felt" where the progressions were going...

Several years later, I was introduced to the drums.  This was a mistake on the part of my parents as any parent can attest to.  You see, owning a pair of drumsticks gives license to the wielder to bang on just about anything - and believe me, I did!  I played drum set in high-school and was fortunate enough to get into our jazz band (by audition).  I learned so much about music in that time and enjoyed playing out pretty regularly with them.  This all culminated in a two-week tour of Russia and Armenia.

But my first love remained the voice.

I've had the opportunity to meet and play with singers and musicians locally and across the globe.  Each new experience taught me more about my craft and I sought these out with a passion.  I've performed as the frontman to several bands and as a member of acapella vocal groups.  I've been an actor and a recording artist.  I've directed choirs and hosted karaoke... I still enjoy many of these things today!

"It gives you a feeling of great satisfaction and joy knowing that you can reach deep down into yourself, and return, to share that part of you with someone else.  This is what it means to be an Artist.  As Artists, we have the ability to let people see the beauty that we see; to feel the emotions that we feel.  We are the magic makers of the world, weaving our tapestries of thought and emotion, creating positive change in those we touch."
